Travel Information

Getting to and from the Workshop
Oxford, Mississippi is about 70 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee.  Approximate driving times from some cities in the region :
   Tupelo, MS  --  60 minutes
   Memphis, TN  -- 75 minutes
   Jackson, MS  -- 160 minutes
 
  Birmingham, AL  --  180 minutes
   Atlanta, GA   --  300 minutes

The nearest major airport is Memphis International Airport (MEM), which is a regional hub for Northwest Airlines. 
SICU2 Workshop registration fees include transportation between Memphis airport and Oxford. In order for us to arrange transportation for you, you must inform us BEFORE June 5 of your arrival and departure times in Memphis.  Buses will pick up SICU2 participants at the Memphis airport at three scheduled times on Wednesday (20 June) and Thursday (21 June). Return buses will take you from Oxford to Memphis airport on Sunday, 24 June. (Those who opt to participate in the full Sunday Excursion can plan to be at the Memphis airport or the airport hotel by 5:30 pm on 24 June.  See details about the Sunday Excursion options.)

Unless you plan to rent a car in Memphis to get to SICU2, you must send an email with your name, flight arrival time (on June 20 or 21) and flight departure time (on June 24 or 25) to sicu2@olemiss.edu

Lodging during the Workshop
A limited number of rooms will be available for participants at The Inn at Ole Miss. This full-feature hotel is located adjacent to the Yerby Conference Center, where workshop sessions will be held. For accompanying guests, a shuttle from campus to "The Square" (Oxford's downtown area) will be provided during the workshop. 
Room rates at the Inn for SICU2 participants range from $76 (standard single room) to $93 (deluxe double room).

When you reserve, be sure to mention SICU2 as the Name of Event.


Meals during the Workshop
For Participants, the Workshop registration fee includes evening meals on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, as well as lunches on Friday and Saturday.
For accompanying Guests, the Guest registration fee includes evening meals on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  Guests are welcome to reserve workshop lunches, also, for an additional fee.
Continental breakfast is included in the room rate for those staying at the Inn at Ole Miss.

Travel Grants for Participants
A limited number of travel grants will be available to participating graduate students and junior scholars, and a few international participants.  We anticipate awarding 20 grants of up to $500 to assist with transportation expenses. 
To apply for these grants, please fill out and submit one of the following documents.  Or, you can simply send an email message that includes the required information from the forms to sicu2@olemiss.edu.

Deadline for full consideration of Travel Applications is January 15, 2007.  After this, if funds allow, we will continue accepting requests until the end of April.  Applicants for travel support should submit an abstract to the workshop.
