Prayer for the World by Sanger B. Steel God grant that nations all may see the light, Discarding hateful selfishness and greed, And see there is no glory in the fight, Find naught but loathing scorn for savage deed; Forget their awful chant that might is right, And take, and live according to, this creed; 'Tis better far to help mankind in need Than plunge him into everlasting night. Then, and only then will firing cease, And gloomy smoke of battlefield will clear, And harassed peoples taste the fruits of peace Instead of grief and never-ending fear. Instead of cursing skies that hurtle pain, They'll thank the kindly heav'ns for gentle rain.
