THE KRISTA HENRY VERNON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Guidelines
for the Scholarship
Incoming students (freshmen or transfer
students) will be selected on the basis of talent, academic strength, and
quality and content of their written essay. The recipient is expected
to major in music education or music performance, with flute as the primary
instrument. The recipient is expected to enroll in flute lessons.
The essay should be typed, double-spaced, and at least two pages.
Please include a title page. In the essay, describe the abilities you
possess that help you qualify for this award.
Please proofread your essay carefully for errors and content. Please
include a typed repertoire list that includes solos, etudes, method books,
and any orchestral selections you have performed.
Eligibility
Incoming freshmen must have an ACT score of 24 or above (SAT 1090-1120)
and a grade point average of 3.0 or better. They must maintain a
minimum grade point average of 3.25 while enrolled at the University of Mississippi. Students
must have completed their band audition by March 1, and must have met in
person with Dr. Dale prior to the awarding of the scholarship.
Expectations
Recipients are expected to be active
performers (as soloist and as ensemble member) and to serve as leaders in the
field of flute music education and performance.
Time limit
The scholarship is for one year
(nonrenewable).
