home and organized Company "A" of the 20th. In last year of the war,
promoted to Major of the regiment. After war, farmed, raised livestock.
Trustee of Gibson County, TN in 1886. Died 22 Mar 1901 near Trenton,
Gibson Co., TN. Survived by 3 sons and 2 daughters.
Active in the UCV ca. 1891.

Henry Clay Greer

in West Tenn. on recruiting service by order Gen'l Buford June 17, 1864."
Assigned to 20th Regiment, February 5, 1864. Paroled at Meridian, MS, May 16,
1865.
A 3rd Lieutenant in Co. "I" of the 5th Tennessee Infantry (a Henry County
regiment), he was discharged when the 5th was reorganized after Shiloh. He
then raised Greer's Regiment of cavalry
(prior to November 1862). This unit saw partisan service during 1863, and
was eventually absorbed into the 20th Regiment.
Also served as captain and assistant comissary of the 3rd Tennessee
Cavalry Battalion prior to raising his own regiment.
