Former Lincoln designer, Mr. Dick Nesbitt, has provided several design concept illustrations that provides a glimpse into the design process of the Lincoln Advanced Design Studio at Ford.

Lincoln has annouced the resurrection of the Zephyr name plate for a new 2006 Lincoln model. The Lincoln Zephyr will be Lincoln's entry level luxury car that will be priced at $30,000 - well below the Lincoln LS. The Zephyr is based on the Mazda platform will provide exceptional luxury and power aimed squarely at the younger driver.

The Lincoln Mark is back -- but as a pickup truck called the Lincoln Mark LT. Lincoln's new super luxury pickup truck (based on the Ford F-150 - 2004 MotorTrend's Truck of the Year) has been release as a 2006 model. This is the re-entry of Lincoln into the super luxury pickup market they created (and swiftly exited) with the Lincoln Blackwood. This super-luxury Mark LT comes at a surprising price tag when compared to the Lincoln Blackwood. And it's pure luxury with a lot of CHROME...Wow!

Lincoln revealed its new concept Mark X. The Mark X, if it goes into production, will be the first convertible hardtop ever offered by Lincoln. The grill is heavily influenced by the design of the 1963 Lincoln Continental. This new front end is very attractive; however, the rear-end is still based on the UGLY Mark IX rear end - hopefully it will be updated also.

Recently, Lincoln exhibited their concept Aviator SUV based on a car frame. Currently, the production Aviator is based on the Ford Explorer SUV. Like the concept Lincoln Mark X, the grill is heavily influenced by the grill design of the 1963 Lincoln Continental.

Sean John(aka P.Diddy-Puff Daddy) and Lincoln have teamed up to produce a very limited edition super luxury 4-wheel drive Navigator SUV. This Sean John Edition is equiped with vibrating seating, 22 Inch Wheels, 3 DVD players, 6 LCD-TV screens, Sony Playstation 2 as well as other luxury appointments not available on the standard Navigator SUV. This special edition will be limited to only 100 units of the super luxury Navigator.

Lincoln unveiled the Navigator K high performance luxury SUV. This Navigator K has a supercharged 5.4L 385HP engine. This is the first Lincoln to be designed by the Ford Performance Group.
Another first coming from Lincoln is the Lucasfilm THX® certified ultra-premium car sound system. This Lincoln THX sound system significantly advances car audio the same way that it has revolutionized sound in commercial theatres, home theatres and multimedia products. Under the arrangement between Lucasfilm and Lincoln, Lucasfilm THX® ensures the high-performance audio systems in Lincoln vehicles meet the exacting sound quality and performance standards of its new "THX Ultra Premium Car Audio" program. This advanced sound system was first offered with with the 2003 Lincoln LS. Additionally, THX and Lincoln collaborated on a concept sound system for the Lincoln Blackwood showcasing in-car multi-channel surround sound.

The Lincoln NAVICROSS concept sports sedan (a crossover concept based on the Mark IX and a sports utility vehicle)
was unveiled at the 2003 North American International Auto Show. The Navicross carries forward the unique understated elegant look based on the clean and simple designs of the concept Continental and Mark IX vehicles.
Based on the Lincoln LS chassis, this unique mid-sized sports sedan offers bucket seats with center console (for both front and rear), hardwood lined trunk compartment, THX Premium Sound System, all-terrain tires based on 20 inch rims with SUV ground clearance

Previewed at the 2002 Auto Show was the futuristic Lincoln CONTINENTAL concept with its 'center opening' four-door version harking
back to it's heritage of the Continentals from the 1960s. It may make its debut in late 2004 to replace the current Continental that
ceased production with the end of the 2002 model. Many features included are the powered center-opening doors, fiber optic indirect
interior lighting, hydralic opening trunk decklid, large luggage/package tray for easy access, THX Ultra-Sound System, 6.0 Litre V12 Engine, 22 Inch wheels, even tire pressure monitoring.
(...Just my opinion -- the thing I think is missing is the small upturn flair found on the rear door of the 61-79 Lincolns that broke flow of the simple straight line of the fender flairs...It makes it less of a brick design - see below:)

The new Lincoln AVIATOR, the ultimate luxury
mid-sized SUV has join the wildly successful Lincoln Navigator SUV in the Lincoln model line-up. Aviator's styling and interior appointments
are taken directly from the Navigator (unless they're setting side by side, they could pass for being identical models). A first for Lincoln SUVs, Aviator comes equipped with 4-wheel independent suspension.

Back in February of 2000, Lincoln introduced the new "Cartier L" special edition Town Car. What differentiated it from the standard Cartier edition is the extended six inch length allowing for wider door openings and has special interior appointments not available on any other model such as rear passenger vanity mirrors. The "L" edition Town Car has very few options not already available as standard equipment. This 'L' Town Car is the largest luxury production car currently manufactured in America. The 'Cartier L' model was renamed the 'Ultimate L' with the introduction of the 2004 model and then became 'Signature Series L' for 2005.

Motor Trend selected the Lincoln LS for their prestigious "Car of the Year" award for the year 2000. Motor Trend's selection validates Lincoln's bold move into the entry-level luxury car market directly aimed at a younger car buyer. The Lincoln LS is the first Lincoln in over 45 years with a manual transmission option.

America's first super-luxury four-door pickup truck--the "Blackwood" (based on the very successful Lincoln Navigator) did not continue into the 2003 model line-up. This makes it a very limited edition Lincoln and a special prize for owners and collectors alike.

The Lincoln-Mercury Division of the Ford Motor Company has retired the Lincoln Continental with end of the 2002 model year production run. The "Continental" was a mid-sized front-wheel drive luxury automobile that has been in production since the 1981 with the introduction of the 1982 model. And while the "Continental" nameplate (once belonging to Lincoln's full sized 'Town Car') is retired, it may make a comeback if the public is favorable to the Lincoln CONTINENTAL concept car.

The Ford Motor Company officially retired the Lincoln Continental Mark series from the 1999 Lincoln product line. The '98 Mark VIII "Collector's Edition" was released at the end of the '98 product year as a special tribute edition to the end of the Mark series that has been in production since 1968 with the introduction of the 1969 Continental Mark III. This hearlded the exit of Lincoln from the large personal luxury car segment that it once dominated. The Lincoln Mark VIII was a technological automobile marvel--one of the unique features was the speed-lowering suspension. It had a sophisticated 281 C.I.D.(4.6-Liter) SEFI DOHC 32V V8 Engine (290 HP--more horses than cubic inches!). Even the last survivors of the full-size personal luxury car market (both the Cadillac Eldorado and the Buick Riviera) have ceased production.

We all have seen many 'Cartier' Lincolns being offered for sale on the internet, magazine, or newspaper classified ads. Be forewarned! Just because a Lincoln has a 'Cartier' clock/chronometer does not necessarily make it a 'Cartier Edition' Lincoln. Since the introduction of the Lincoln Continental Mark III in 1968, Cartier chronometers have been standard feature of the instrument panel cluster on many (but not all) Lincolns. The "Cartier Edition" originally appeared with the 1976 Lincoln Continental Mark IV as one of the Designer Series Marks that signified a fully equipped Mark IV that had a specific color scheme and luxury appointments not available on any other model. (The original Cartier Edition Mark IV had the unique dove-gray color scheme with special roof chrome and special body-side molding not available on other models.) In later models, the "Cartier Edition" was offered in the Town Car and Continental models as well as the Marks as being the high-end fully equipped luxury editions of a specific model year. So 'buyer beware' -- investigate your potential purchase!
