Actions participants in theMississippi
State and Public School Employees' Health Insurance Plans have taken in
order to bring attention to the changes in the Insurance Plan.
Mary Brandt Jensen has sent a letter to Max K. Arinder, Director, Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review Committee, requesting that the PEER Committee should investigate the Dept. of Finance and Administration and the process in which AHS, Inc., became the Direct Contracting Administrator for the State and Public School Employee's Health Insurance Plan. She included a copy of all the petitions she has received as of 11/4/99, an e-mail from Therese Hanna received on 11/2/99, Ms Jensen's reply on 11/2/99, and the original e-mail sent to Max Arinder on 11/1/99. Mary followed up with another e-mail on 11/14/99 and Max K. Arinder replied on 11/15/99.
Also, Mary Brandt Jensen is asking State and Public School Employee's who are also worried about the change to a single network (AHS State Network) to sign a petition. She has distributed copies of petitions with over 650 state and public school employees' signatures to individuals who are running for elected offices in the state, and to Max K. Arinder, Director, Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review Committee.

Anne M. Klingen has set up a listserv that sends out messages about
any changes or actions people are taking to bring attention to the issue
of the changes in the State Insurance Plan - Please feel free to
join!
Anne M. Klingen sent a letter to the Department of Finance and Administration, which contained multiple questions about the changes in the Health Insurance Plan and Therese Hanna replied on November 2, 1999.

Lastly, if you are concerned about these changes, please contact your current state representatives, the newly elected state representatives, your Human Resources Office, and the members of the Health Insurance Management Board which administers the State and Public School Employees' Health Insurance Plan. I have included a list with more contacts.

The Staff Council at the University
of Mississippi is in the process of writing a letter to AHS and to local
physicians urging them to work out an agreement, as so many employees are
involved and are concerned about the uncertainty created by this situation.

The Faculty Senate at the University
of Mississippi unanimoulsy voted in favor of a resolution expressing concerns
about the changes in the State Helath Insurance Program. Per
an e-mail from Phil Malone, Chair of the Faculty Senante Finance Committee,
the resolution passed in the Faculty Senate!
The e-mail reads - "We overwhelming passed your resolution with
just a few minor changes. I will try to send you a copy of the version
that we passed sometime next week. Thanks for you help."
